Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi ( 2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) was an Indian lawyer and political ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British rule and in turn inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. He was one of the greatest Indians of all times and is known as the Father of the Indian Nation.
Mahatma Gandhi, as he is known by his followers with reverence, preached the philosophy of non-violence which has become even more relevant today. His commitment to non-violence and Satyagraha (peaceful resistance) gave hope to marginalized sections of India.
He was both a saint and a practical leader. He was simple pure and religious person. He tried hard to raise the distressed sections of the society. He felt for the poor and untouchables.
